Role Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Software Developer to help build, scale, and strengthen the engineering foundation of the SafetyConnect platform.
You will work closely with the founder, the engineering team, and product to design and ship features end to end, deepen the reliability of our backend services, and shape the technical direction of the product as we grow.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong full-stack foundation who is also confident going beyond features into system design, deployment, and operational ownership, and who wants meaningful influence early in their career.

Key Responsibilities:
Feature Development & Ownership:
- Design and build features end to end across our React frontend and Node.js backend services
- Own the technical design, implementation, and quality of the work you ship
- Translate product requirements into clean, maintainable engineering work
- Ensure features are well tested, observable, and ready for enterprise scale
Backend Service Ownership:
- Take ownership of significant portions of our backend, which runs across multiple Node.js services
- Drive performance, reliability, and maintainability improvements in the services you own
- Make sound choices around schema design, data flows, and service boundaries
- Work with PostgreSQL on schema design, query optimisation, and indexing
Reliability, Deployment & Operations:
- Improve our deployment workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and release processes
- Strengthen logging, monitoring, and alerting across our services
- Diagnose and resolve production issues, and reduce their recurrence over time
- Contribute to building a more resilient, observable, and recoverable system
Architecture & Technical Direction:
- Contribute to architectural decisions as the platform evolves
- Help evaluate trade-offs around new services, integrations, and tooling
- Work with third-party SDKs and webhook-based integrations as part of our data pipeline
Code Quality & Mentoring:
- Review code, raise the technical bar, and contribute to engineering standards
- Mentor junior developers and support their growth
- Help build a culture of clean code, thoughtful design, and continuous improvement
Customer-Impacting Issue Resolution:
- Work with customer success and support teams to investigate and resolve customer issues
- Own root-cause analysis for production issues and drive long-term fixes
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 to 5 years of professional software development experience, ideally in a product company
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js for backend development
- Production experience with React for frontend development
- Solid working knowledge of PostgreSQL or a comparable RDBMS
- Hands-on experience with AWS (EC2, RDS, S3) and modern deployment workflows
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and DevOps practices
- Comfort with logging, monitoring, and incident response in production systems
- Track record of owning features end to end, not just executing assigned tickets
- Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly
- Bonus: experience in B2B SaaS or enterprise software environments
- Bonus: exposure to multi-service backend architectures
- Bonus: experience integrating third-party SDKs, webhooks, or telematics/IoT data
- Bonus: prior experience mentoring or informally leading engineers
